DonDiego Torres is a New Orleans composer who started playing piano, guitar, and double bass at a young age, which nurtured his passion for music. Although he played many instruments, DonDiego did not develop an interest in composing until later. However, the COVID-19 pandemic solidified his commitment to composition.
Growing up, DonDiego found inspiration in Murray Gold’s “Doctor Who” and John Williams’ sweeping orchestral works. Doctor Who, with its grand and emotional music, shaped his love for orchestration and storytelling.
Today, DonDiego’s compositional style combines cinematic orchestral music with classical traditions and the energy of film and video game soundtracks. While rooted in orchestral techniques, he has recently been experimenting with synthesizers to explore new textures and expand his sonic palette, creating dynamic and timeless compositions.
Themes and counter-themes form the heart of DonDiego’s work, creating beautiful and complex orchestrations. His theme building often evokes powerful emotional journeys, exploring adventure, romance, melancholy, and drama. Drawing inspiration from life experiences and beloved influences like Star Wars, Dark Souls, Brahms, and Mahler, DonDiego’s compositions are both modern and timeless.
As a multi-instrumentalist, DonDiego enjoys exploring music from various perspectives, with orchestras being his preferred ensemble for composition. In April 2023, he won the Concerto and Composition Competition at Loyola University New Orleans, and his piece “The Last Battle” was performed by the university’s orchestra that fall. That same year, he was recognized as the Best Student Composer at Loyola.
Currently studying Film and Video Game Composition at Berklee, DonDiego aims to create emotionally immersive music by combining orchestral precision with modern synth versatility.
